Let's talk about morons for a moment.

I need to get a few things off my chest. I want to tell you about STUPID PEOPLE and the STUPID THINGS that they do.
From here on out, I will affectionatley refer to these people by their proper name...moron!
Here are just a few of the things that are on my mind today...

1. I am so totally FOR a ban on cell phones while driving. I can't even count how many times, in the past two days I have come up behind a slow moving car, on the highway, in the fast lane, and as I pull around this moron, he or she is talking on their damn phone!
HEY JACKASS! GET OFF THE PHONE AND PAY ATTENTION TO THE ROAD!!!

2. When you go to the mall, or grocery store, or where ever it is you have to go, take that extra 10 to 30 seconds and park your car BETWEEN THE LINES.
The lines on the parking lot are straight, when isn't your car moron?
I keep telling Steph that we are going to make some stickers to put on these cars to tell these morons what a great parking job they have done! (full on sarcasm mode here!)

3. Steph will tell you that I am a "crochety old man" now, but for some reason it really bothers me when I see a kid that won't wear his baseball cap straight.
Frontwards or backwards, that's fine, any other way is just wrong!!!!!!
PULL UP YOUR DAMN PANTS AND PUT YOUR HAT ON STRAIGHT MORON!!!
I can't believe that they think this is a good look! We had a name for those kids when I was younger...moron!

That's all for now. I had a rough day and needed to get some things off my chest. I feel better now. Thanks for reading!

The World of Geocaching...

I hope all of you are having a good weekend. I thought this might be a good time to introduce you to one of our hobbies - geocaching! For those that don't know what it is, let me explain.

It is an adventure game using a GPS (global positioning system). People all over the world set up "caches" and using the latitude and longtitude of the location place the information on the internet (www.geocaching.com). Other players can take the information and go out and find the cache. All you need is a basic GPS unit, ours cost about $120.
The cache itself can take a variety of forms - from something as small as a film canister to as large as a jug or ammo box. All are camoflauged to fit into the environment and a suitably hidden so as not to be visible to the casual passerby.
So what's in the cache? First, there is always a logbook that you can sign and date that you were there. Depending on the size of the cache it may also contain any number of more or less valuable items. The rules are simple...sign the logbook and if you take something from the cache you should leave something of equal value. You would be very suprised to find out how many caches are hidden all over the world and many right near your home! You need not hike into the bush to get to them, but in some cases you might have to!
So what's the big deal you ask, why would you want to find these geocaches? It's deceptively easy. The website provides you some information about where the cache is, but to actually get out there and find it, is in itself the true reward! We also find it a cool way to get outside, get active, explore new places and have fun doing it!

We started geocaching last fall and while we weren't too active in the winter, we have found 24 caches so far. Actually, Scott will brag that he actually found them, but I got us to the right spot! In most cases I am too busy looking at the GPS and he is spending more time looking around so has more oppertunity to see it. But on occasion I have been known to spot them and it is very satisfying!

Yesterday we found three out in the Ajax/Whitby area and I know we found the right location for another one at the Pickering Go Station but couldn't actually get it due to high muggle traffic in the area. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that while looking for the caches, you are to try and do it without alerting the people around the area (referred to as muggles, like from Harry Potter books) to what you are doing. Most caches do have a note that explain what geocaching is so that if they are found by a "muggle" they can understand what they have found.

The pics above are a couple of the first caches we ever found. They are located up in the Halibuton area but I won't tell you exactly where in case you decide that you want to start the hunt for yourself!!

Excellent Concert Adventures

Friday July 7, 2006...Road Trip!!!!

My friend Moe and I were quite excited earlier this year to hear that Sammy Hagar would be touring this summer with Michael Anthony. Our excitement soon turned to disappointment when we found out that the tour was not coming to Toronto. As the tour dates were revealed, we learned that the closest the tour was coming was to Darien Lake, near Buffalo.
After some debate, and re-arrangement of previously made travel plans, we got some tickets.
On Friday July 7 we set out on a two and a half hour drive to a great night of Rock 'n Roll!!!

The place was set up with a travelling Cabo Wabo Village...

As you can see from the picture above, there was a Bar. There was also a beach volleyball court set up, with the greatest volleyball match I have ever witnessed!!! It was the girls of Hooters, playing against some girls in bikinis. I have several pictures of this game, but Steph says I shouldn't put those pictures up here.

Drinks were a little expensive, but on a hot summer day, it didn't matter.

As show time approached, we made our way to our seats, Section 201, dead center...

That's Moe.

It was a great show. The first half of the show was Sammy with his band the Wabos, doing his solo stuff, older material like I Can't Drive 55, with newer stuff like Sam I Am.

The second half of the show Sammy played Van Halen tunes with Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony. Runnin' With The Devil, Judgement Day, Right Now.

It was a great show! I hope next time he makes it to the Toronto area, so I don't have to drive so far; however, I would not hesitate to do it all again.

That's all for now.

Scott

PS If you would like to see some pictures from "the greatest volleyball match ever!!!" just let me know.

I grew beans!!

Hello one and all,
I came home today to find that Scott had given us this little part of the web as an outlet so that you could know what is going on with us. So here is my news of the day - I grew beans! That's right, beans. I know this may not be too exciting for some of you but it was for me. As a child, my mother often kept a garden in the backyard and I recall trying to be a good helper. But in adulthood I was starting to doubt that my thumb might ever turn green. We recently moved into the lower level of a house and there was a very unkept garden in the backyard. So what the heck, I thought, let's see if anything will grow. Even Scott had some doubts and asked me "You won't be upset if nothing grows will you?" But I had faith that it might. So I weeded and watered, and yesterday after coming home from the cottage, I was weeding and found that the beans had grown!! So tonight we had beans for dinner! They were pretty good, even if Scott did smoother them in pepper sauce, but at least he ate them. Anyhow, that's my news for today! ~Steph
