YOU WENT TO SEE WHO?!?!?
Last Thursday Steph and I went to a concert.
Q107, the local classic rock radio station in Toronto was celebrating 30 years, and they were throwing a party at a bar called the Docks with several bands playing. It was a win to get in kind of thing and I won 2 tickets, so off we went.
The Docks is a rather large entertainment venue down on Toronto's waterfront. It is really quite spectacular. A very large bar, outdoor patio, driving range, go-carts and a drive in theatre.
The concert itself was nostalgic to say the least.
Up first was a band called the Salads. I can't really say too much about them because we got there just as they were finishing.
This is now the part where you start to say "WHO?"
Next was legendary Canadian rockers Godo. I had heard of them but really couldn't have told you anything that they play; however, I recognized all three songs that they played. It was a case of, "oh they sing that song, I know that one!".
After Godo was Honeymoon Suite. If you were a teenager in the 80's then you know songs like New Girl Now and Burning in Love. I had never seen them before and thought they were pretty good.
After Honeymoon Suite came Canadian Idol judge Sass Jordan. I was quite excited to see her as I really like her music. She did two songs with just her and a guitar player. Although I was a little disappointed that she didn't have her full band there, she was still very good.
For me, the next artist was the surprise of the night. David Wilcox. My high school "bush party" days had made me quite familiar with his music, but I had never seen him live before. Let me just say that I will ABSOLUTELY be going to see him if and when he comes around. Best performance of the night in my opinion!
Finally, the band everyone had been waiting for. (Time for another "Who is that?" moment)
The re-united MAX WEBSTER.
Max Webster was pretty big in Canada in the mid to late 70's. Led by Q107 DJ Kim Mitchel they had a string of hits you might have heard. Songs like Diamonds Diamonds, A Million Vacations and many others that if you heard them, you might say I know that song, but I couldn't tell you who sang it.
You might know Kim Mitchel better as the "Might as Well Go For a Soda" guy.
Anyway. Steph and I had a really good time, even though on Friday we both payed for it at work. (I think we are getting too old)
We took a bunch of pictures, and this picture of Kim Mitchel was the best one.
